Interview with the founder of Peanut & Piglet Ltd

peanut-and-piglet-logo-v1_2Emma Morrissey is a mum of twins. She is also the founder of Peanut & Piglet Ltd – an online shop for parents of new born twins. Emma kindly took some time out of her extremely busy schedule to answer a few twin related questions for us. Her responses to our questions made us smile and we hope you enjoy them too.

What is your most cherished memory of your twins to date?

This is a hard one, there are so many! I was very worried during my pregnancy and the moment that the sonographer told me that they were both safe and healthy will stay with me forever. There are just too many memories to choose from, but watching them hold hands and having chats is one of life’s simple pleasures.

What was the most important milestone for your twins when you felt life was becoming a little bit easier?

When they got to 3 years old and we were eligible for free childcare. We definitely turned a corner at this point as we were able to access help and they started to socialise more successfully.

What do you think is the hardest thing about being a parent of twins?

I found the hardest part was when they were about 2 years old. Peanut & Piglet were very active and needed to go to the park a lot, they ran in different directions and had no fear so it was pretty stressful and exhausting to keep them safe!

What’s the best thing about being a twin parent?

Their developing friendship warms my heart every day. Of course they fight, but they are also very close and constantly telling me that they love each other.

What’s the silliest thing a stranger has asked you about your twins?

One man asked me how I managed not to get them muddled up. Peanut is a girl and Piglet a boy! The man suggested I pierced Peanut’s ears…

Are your twin’s personalities alike or ‘chalk & cheese’?

Chalk and cheese. One is kind, loving and cuddly. The other is independent, determined and sassy.

How did your working life change as a result of having twins?

It changed massively. I set up my twin brand and began a completely new journey. I still have a “proper job” to pay the bills and now resort to juggling like a circus clown!

What inspired you to start a business?

I needed a comfortable twin breastfeeding pillow. My back ached, and my breastfeeding set up was so wobbly. I knew that I could do better than what was available on the market and help other twin mums. So that was how it all began.

Can you summarise your business in a few sentences?

Peanut & Piglet, an online shop for parents of new born twins.

How does your product differ from others that are available?

Peanut & Piglet’s twin feeding pillow supports both mother and babies. It sits mum in the best position for a perfect latch and allows your babies to rest comfortably in a supported position whilst they feed.

Do you have any new products for twins launching soon?

We have just launched our Petite Piglet pillow so that we can help mums of all heights. After this I am working on an inflatable travel pillow as many mums have asked me what to do when they go on holiday.

What would you say to a twin mum or dad that wanted to start a business?

Ummmm, you had better not ask me that! It is rewarding but an enormous amount of work.

What is the one thing you would say to someone who has just found they are having twins?

Congratulations! That is all there is to say. Twins are hard work but you love them endlessly and wouldn’t change them for the world.
